Responsible for stopping vehicles quicker and quieter than ever before, brake pads are one of the most important components in the braking system. And is why there’s no compromise when it comes to choosing one.  As a leading Tier-1 OE manufacturer, our pads are designed, manufactured and tested to the meet the same standards of performance, consistency and longevity as the OE.  We call it Delphi’s “Five Layers of Quality”… and we build these into every one of our pads.

1)    Shims: OE-quality, multi-layered shims for quieter braking.
2)    Back plate: Manufactured from high-strength pressed steel with a special powder coating for increased strength and wear resistance.
3)    OE underlayer: 3mm noise-absorbing friction material for reduced heat transfer (up to 22%) and increased sheer strength (up to 31%).
4)    Friction material: more than 130 different friction ingredients and 20 unique friction formulations engineered for the vehicle class.
5)    Friction surface: OE configured chamfers to shorten bedding in and reduce noise. Plus slots for increased flexibility and water and dust removal.

Greener braking

From January 2025, US legislation will dictate that brake pads must contain no more than 0.5% copper, whilst still meeting the same rigorous safety standards.  Just like vehicles fitted with Delphi brakes, we have stopped sooner. Better still, the newly engineered formula in our copper-free brake pads, offers improved brake fade performance without compromising noise control or heat dissipation.  Look out for the leaf symbol on our packaging labels for low copper content pads.
 

Rigorous testing

Of course, there’s no compromise when it comes to safety-critical parts. That’s why all our pads undergo rigorous testing. First in the lab. We test on dynometers to assess the stopping distances at different speeds and loads. We compression test to ascertain the hardness of the pad. And finally we subject each pad to a series of tests on our noise dynometer. Then we take to the road. We test the performance, noise, comfort and safety under every day driving conditions. But we also put our brakes through their paces on some of the world’s most challenging roads. So you can be sure our brakes perform, regardless of the conditions.


Mirroring vehicle manufacturer updates

In line with our commitment to always meet the same standards of performance, consistency and longevity as the OE, we continuously benchmark the latest vehicle manufacturer samples. If we spot any changes, we’ll match them. Like for like. So if the vehicle manufacturer adds a chamfer, we’ll add one. If they upgrade their friction material, we’ll upgrade ours. You get the gist! Whatever it is, we’ll update the Delphi pad too.
